In just a few years, Joe Wicks has gone from personal trainer, to boot camp instructor, to the inspiration for over 100,000 people worldwide to lose weight and get in shape. His mantra – “Lean in 15!” – helps to keep his workout plans, recipes, and overall philosophy easy to understand and approachable for even the most time-starved or exercise-intimidated people.
With quick, 15-second videos, Joe has attracted millions of social media followers with his irreverent take on delicious, nutritious recipes that take only 15 minutes to make. He recommends 15-minute HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workouts along with smart eating to show people they don’t have to go on crash diets or spend hours at the gym to achieve their goals.
His reach extends beyond the digital – his cookbook Lean in 15: 15 Minute Meals and Workouts to Keep You Lean and Healthy is the leader for the most pre-orders on Amazon UK before its debut in December 2015, and since then has sold more cookbooks in the United Kingdom than any other. In May, his book launches in the US.
Joe uses the Exercise Tile on his Microsoft Band during his 15-minute HIIT workouts, checking his heart rate throughout to make sure he’s hitting his target. The number of calories burned after each workout is another benchmark he uses to stay on track to meet his goals. Every night, Joe tracks his sleep quality so he can monitor how well his body restores itself after a day of workouts and planning for his next recipe or video post.
